She calls to us and we understand yet we can never swallow the actual grandness of this sea
we stare into the past while standing in the present as light travels to us with its stories
we watch, we paint, the twinkling gathering of stars and planets all spread out
together in colossal space, black, unknown, to us small apathetic beings
we look at the cosmic clouds wondering where they could lead us
and the warm darkness they emit around but we see
the thick cloud over cloud over cloud
we see the flapping wings
fly and look at us
from the sky
we touch
the bumpy rocks
and the cold soil beneath
our feet as we walk down step by step
from the luminary mountain that let us see
not only the space above but also the space below us
that calls us back in between pine and pine and barberries
and their odor envelopes us as we struggle to breathe and we start
to miss the fresh wild feeling of standing on the peak where the calls sound
pleasant and mesmerizing and for once we become more than just the small beings
Sea in the Sky
